8 Days Lemosho Route: itinerary

DAY 1: Arriving Day

Welcome to Tanzania!
Upon landing at Kilimanjaro International Airport, our skilled drivers will greet you and take you to the Green Mountain Hotel in Arusha. Once you have checked in, unwind for a while before your mountain guide comes by in the evening for a briefing and gear check before your trek.

DAY 2: Lemosho Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp

Meet with your climbing team at the hotel and drive to Machame Gate. The Lemosho gate is at the western base of the mountain. After arriving at the park gate, your guide will help with all necessary registration formalities while the porters sort out the luggage. We will get our lunch at the gate before starting our Kilimanjaro expedition. We hike through the lush rainforest, where we can see exotic moss, different flowers, and black and white colobus monkeys. When you arrive at the camp, you will get hot water for washing. Enjoy your first dinner on the mountain. Welcome to mti mkubwa camp.

DAY 3: Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp

Our hiking starts after our first breakfast on the mountain.
Ascend through the lush rolling hills and crosses several streams and Shira Ridge before dropping gently down to the Shira 1 camp for a hot lunch. Take a short walk before dinner time.

From Mti Mkubwa to Shira 1 Camp 4 hrs 7 km

DAY 4: Check out Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 camp

After a heavy breakfast, we leave Shira 1 to Shira 2 camp. Today we cross between Moorland and Heathland. We explore the beautiful nature and view of the Shira plateau.

From Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp: 4 hrs, 10 km

DAY 5: Shira 2 to Barranco Camp.

We check out Shira to Baranco Camp through the Lava Tower after breakfast. We will arrive at the junction connecting the climbers from the other side of the Machame route. We head to Lava Tower 4600 amsl, the highest point for today. After a hot lunch at the lava tower, descend to Barranco camp for dinner and overnight.

From Shira 2 Camp to lava tower: 4 hours, 7 km
From lava tower to Barranco camp: 2 hours, 3 km

DAY 6: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Today we climb the Barranco wall. We begin our climb by crossing the river. The trail is very narrow and steep, expect traffic. Cross a famous part of the Barranco Wall, where you hug and kiss Rock to step on the other side. The walking poles are not necessary in this section. Your professional guides are always there to assist you.
Within an hour, arrive at the top of the Barranco wall for fantastic photos.
Short break and descend to the last water point (Karanga River), where we climb the last steep section of the day. We will have our hot lunch at Karanga Camp.

DAY 7: Karanga to Barafu Camp

The next camp is not far, and the trail is less steep today.
We will arrive at Barafu camp earlier for a hot lunch so that you spend the rest hours of the day relaxing. Unlike other days, expect an earlier dinner. Get yourself enough resting time to energize for a summit night.

DAY 8: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

Today is a great day! a day that you have been waiting for so long. You will wake up around 11 pm to prepare for the summit. After a light breakfast, we start our summit adventure around midnight. Your head guide will lead the way. He will set a good pace that will make you comfortable. Make sure you listen and follow the advice of your professional guides to reach Uhuru Peak safely and comfortably.

We will get a short tea break at Stella Point at 5756 m. After one more hiking hour, we will reach Uhuru Peak at 5895m. Spend your time at Uhuru Peak enjoying a view and taking photos before descending to the base camp for breakfast and lunch.
After lunch, leave Barafu to Mweka Camp, where we spend our last night on Kilimanjaro.

From Barafu Camp to Stella Point: 6 hrs 4 km
From Stella Point to Uhuru Peak: 1 hrs 1 km
From Uhuru to Barafu Camp: 3 hrs 5km
From Barafu Camp to Mweka Camp: 4 hours and 7.5km

DAY 9: Mweka Camp to Arusha

After our last breakfast on the mountain, we leave Mweka Camp, descending about 3 hours to Mweka Gate. On arrival at the gate, we check out, collect certificates and drive back to your hotel in Arusha for a shower and celebrations.

Descending time: 3 hours, 10km
Driving time to Arusha: 2 hours
Accommodation: Green Mountain Hotel

DAY 10: Departure

Before heading to the airport, you have the option to undertake a day-trip tour to various destinations such as Arusha Park, Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro, Napuru Waterfalls, or Ilkidinga Cultural Tourism.
