Hot Springs in Kikuletwa
Hot Springs in Kikuletwa
OVERVIEW
Maji Moto, also known as Kikuletwa Hot Springs locally, is a paradisiacal oasis in the middle of the Tanzanian savannah. It features lush foliage, views reminiscent of the Bounty, and crystal-clear water. The greatest spot to go after climbing Kilimanjaro or going on a safari is Chemka Hot Springs, which is only a two-hour drive from Moshi (Tanzania), the area’s primary climbing hub.
Chemka oasis is a rare occurrence because it is the only location in Tanzania (and probably all of East Africa) where groundwater actively interacted with geothermal sources to form a number of small lakes with warm, never-stagnant water that is as pure as the best Dominican or Maldivian resorts.
Highlights
You’ll leave from your hotel in Moshi and drive for two hours to reach Maji Moto. Off the beaten path, this gorgeous trip gives you a look at local life, including bustling markets, small farms, and the like.
The following few hours will be spent lounging in the invitingly warm water, enjoying the rope swing, unwinding under the shady shade of the trees, and indulging in regional specialties such chips mayai (a French fried omelette) and nyama choma (BBQ). After enjoying yourself in the sun, you’ll return to your hotel.
