It’s great that you will have a night overstay at Horombo Hut for acclimatization purposes, which will make the trek more comfortable and enjoyable. Unlike the other routes, you stay in Hut accommodation.The Marangu Route provides hut accommodations, which is a unique experience compared to other routes that require camping. Itinerary for 6-day Marangu Route
DAY 1: Arrival Day
DAY 2: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut
Meet your crew at the hotel and then drive to Marangu Gate. Marangu is the headquarters of Kilimanjaro National Park. On arrival at the park gate, your guide will help with all necessary registration formalities before taking your lunch. Soon after permit clearance, start your Kilimanjaro expedition hiking through a rainforest where you can see different bird species and black and white Colobus monkeys. After 3 hours of hiking, we will arrive at Mandara Camp to spend our first night on the mountain. We will provide hot water for washing up before heading to the mess for your first dinner on Kilimanjaro.

DAY 3: Mandara Hut for Horombo Hut
After the morning call, you will be provided with water for washing. Please organize your bags before heading to the mess for your first breakfast on Kilimanjaro. Following breakfast, you will begin your hike through the open moorland. If the weather is clear, you may catch a glimpse of the Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. Some of the attractions you will see on your way include Lobelia Deckenii and Senecio Kilimanjari.

DAY 4: Full day relaxation at Horombo Hut
Spend another night at Horombo for acclimatization, after breakfast, we will take a short walk to Zebra Rocks.
Enjoying the beautiful view, return to Horombo Hut for lunch. After lunch, spend the whole day at Horombo Hut.
DAY 5: Horombo to Kibo
After breakfast, we hike to the base camp, passing through the moorland and the alpine desert. After a while, we will get to the saddle area between the peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo. We get our picnic lunch there before heading to Kibo Hut for dinner. Unlike other days, expect an earlier dinner today to get enough time to sleep due to a long night’s walk to the summit.

DAY 6: Kibo to Uhuru Peak to Horombo Hut
Today is a special day, one that you have been eagerly anticipating. You will wake up around 11 pm to prepare for the summit. We will begin our summit expedition around midnight, after a light breakfast. Your head guide will lead the way and set a comfortable pace for you to follow. You must listen to and follow the advice of your professional guides to safely and comfortably reach Uhuru Peak.
We will take a short tea break at Gilman’s Point, which is at an altitude of 5,681m. After hiking for two more hours, we will reach Uhuru Peak, which is at an altitude of 5895m. You will have time to enjoy the stunning views and take photos before descending to the base camp for breakfast and lunch. Later, we will descend to the lower altitude (Horombo Hut) for dinner and an overnight stay.
Kibo Hut to Gilman’s Point: 6 hrs 4 km
Gilman’s Point to Uhuru Peak: 2 hours 2 km
Uhuru to Horombo Hut: 5 hrs 16 km

DAY 7: Horombo Hut to Arusha
Today is the last day of your Kilimanjaro expedition. You will have your final breakfast on the mountain and celebrate with your crew by singing and dancing to Kilimanjaro songs before departing for the gate. The journey back to Marangu Gate will take approximately 5 to 6 hours. Upon reaching the gate, you will receive your certificates and have lunch before driving to the Green Mountain Hotel in Arusha.
The distance from Horombo Hut to Marangu gate is 19 km.
DAY 8: Departure
Today is your last day in Tanzania. We can arrange a day-trip tour to Arusha Park, Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro, Napuru Waterfalls, or Ilkidinga Cultural Tourism before airport time. Alternatively, you can choose to extend your stay and explore more of Tanzania’s attractions.
