7 DAYS LEMOSHO ROUTE: KILIMANJARO CLIMBING

Kilimanjaro climbing 7 days Lemosho route is an exciting adventure that is perfect for nature enthusiasts and hikers. Keep in mind that completing the climb in seven days means skipping one camp. It’s important to note that by skipping a camp, you’ll have an extra hiking hours in certain day.

The Lemosho Route is one of the most scenic and less-crowded Machame route. It offers a variety of landscapes, from lush rainforests to alpine deserts. It’s good to train beforehand and consult with a doctor to ensure you’re physically ready for the trek.

Itinerary for 7 Days Lemosho Route

DAY 1:  Arriving Day

Welcome to Tanzania!
Upon landing at Kilimanjaro International Airport, our skilled drivers will greet you and take you to the Green Mountain Hotel in Arusha. Once you have checked in, unwind for a while before your mountain guide comes by in the evening for a briefing and gear check before your trek.

DAY 2: Lemosho Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp

Meet with your climbing team at the hotel and drive to Machame Gate. The Lemosho gate is at the western base of the mountain. After arriving at the park gate, your guide will help with all necessary registration formalities while the porters sort out the luggage. We will get our lunch at the gate before starting our Kilimanjaro expedition. We hike through the lush rainforest, where we can see exotic moss, different flowers, and black and white colobus monkeys. When you arrive at the camp, you will get hot water for washing. Enjoy your first dinner on the mountain. Welcome to mti mkubwa camp.

DAY 3: Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 2 Camp

Our long day of hiking starts after our first breakfast on the mountain. Ascend through the lush rolling hills and crosses several streams and Shira Ridge before dropping gently down to the Shira 1 camp for a hot lunch. After the delicious lunch, our journey proceeds hiking for 4 hours more to Shira 2 campsite for relaxation and dinner.

From Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp 10 km about 4 hrs

DAY 4: Shira 2 to Barranco Camp

We check out Shira to Baranco Camp through the Lava Tower after breakfast. We will arrive at the junction connecting the climbers from the other side of the Machame route. We head to Lava Tower 4600 amsl, the highest point for today. After a hot lunch at the lava tower, descend to Barranco camp for dinner and overnight.

From Shira 2 Camp to lava tower: 4 hours, 7 km
From lava tower to Barranco camp: 2 hours, 3 km

DAY 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Today, we climb the Barranco wall. We begin our climb by crossing the river. The trail is narrow and steep, so anticipate some congestion. Cross a famous part of the Barranco Wall, where you hug and kiss Rock to step on the other side. Walking poles are unnecessary in this part of the journey.

In approximately an hour, you will reach the top of the Barranco wall, offering an ideal opportunity for stunning photographs.
Short break and descend to the last water point (Karanga River), where we climb the last steep section of the day. We will have our hot lunch at Karanga Camp.

DAY 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

The upcoming camp is nearby, and the path is gentler today. We will reach Barafu camp earlier for a hot lunch, giving you more time to unwind later in the day. Expect an earlier dinner than usual. Ensure you have sufficient rest to prepare for the summit night.

DAY 7: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

Today is an exciting day, one you have long anticipated.You will wake up around 11 pm to prepare for the summit. After a light breakfast, we start our summit adventure around midnight. Your head guide will lead the way at a comfortable pace. It is essential to heed the advice of your professional guides for a safe and enjoyable journey to Uhuru Peak.

A brief tea break awaits at Stella Point, located at 5756m.
After one more hiking hour, we will reach Uhuru Peak at 5895m. Spend your time at Uhuru Peak enjoying a view and capture photos before descending to the base camp for breakfast and lunch. After lunch, leave Barafu to Mweka Camp, where we spend our last night on Kilimanjaro.

From Barafu Camp to Stella Point: 6 hrs 4 km
From Stella Point to Uhuru Peak: 1 hrs 1 km
From Uhuru to Barafu Camp: 3 hrs 5km
From Barafu Camp to Mweka Camp: 4 hours and 7.5km

DAY 8: Mweka Camp to Arusha

Following our final breakfast on the mountain, we depart from Mweka Camp and descend for approximately 3 hours to Mweka Gate. Upon reaching the gate, enjoy lunch, receive certificates, and then proceed to your hotel in Arusha for a shower and celebration.

DAY 9: Departure

Before heading to the airport, you have the option to undertake a day-trip tour to various destinations such as Arusha ParkTarangireLake ManyaraNgorongoroNapuru Waterfalls, or Ilkidinga Cultural Tourism.
