The 7-day Machame Route is a great option to consider. This route is known for its beautiful scenery and diverse landscapes, as well as its relatively high success rate for climbers who are acclimatizing properly. During your seven days, you’ll hike through rain forest, moorland, and alpine desert up to the summit of Kilimanjaro at 5,895 meters.
7 Days Machame Route - Itinerary
Day 1: Airport Pick Up and Hotel Drop off

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, one of our professional drivers will meet you and then transfer to your hotel in Arusha.

We can switch your accommodation according to your needs, preferences, and budget.
Day 2: Leave Arusha to Machame Gate to Machame Camp Meet with your climbing team at the hotel and drive to Machame Gate. The Machame gate is located at the southern base of the mountain. On arrival at the park gate, your guide will help with all necessary registration formalities while the porters sort out the luggage. Our Kilimanjaro expedition starts after obtaining our entrance permit. We hike through the rainforest, where we can see some of the endemic plants of Kilimanjaro, such as the impatiens kilimanjari or Elephant trunk. We can also see junipers, sycamore trees, tree ferns, and moss. We will get our lunch halfway to fuel up the remaining hours of hiking to our first camp for today. We will provide you with hot water for washing at the camping. Enjoy your first dinner on the mountain with us. Welcome to Kilimanjaro, and welcome to Precious Safaris! Day 3: Check out Machame to Shira Camp Enjoy your first breakfast on Kilimanjaro! You deserve a heavy breakfast as the trail is steep today. We leave the camp soon after breakfast and walk over the rocky ridge on the Shira Plateau. We can get a nice view of Shira Peak and Shira Plateau. We will take our picnic lunch before climbing the last steep ridge closer to the camp. We can see our campsite for today as we finish the last steep part of the day. When we arrive at the campsite, your waiter will bring hot water for washing. After the tea/coffee break, we leave the camp for a short walk to Shira cave and climb higher for acclimatization. Day 4: Leave Shira to Barranco Camp. We check out Shira to Baranco Camp after a heavy breakfast. We will arrive at the junction connecting the climbers from the other side of the Lemosho route. We head to Lava Tower 4600 amsl, the highest point for today. After a hot lunch at the lava tower, descend to Barranco camp for dinner and overnight. Hiking time and distance from Shira Cave to lava tower: 4 hours, 7 km Hiking time and distance from lava tower to Barranco Camp: 2 hours, 3 km Accommodation: Barranco Camp Vegetation Zone: Moorland Elevation: 3900 amsl
Day 5: Climb Barranco Wall to Karanga Camp Today we climb the Barranco wall. We begin our climb by crossing the river. The trail is very narrow and steep, expect traffic. Cross a famous part of the Barranco Wall, where you hug and kiss Rock to step on the other side. The walking poles are not necessary in this section. Your professional guides are always there to assist you. Within an hour, arrive at the top of the Barranco wall for fantastic photos. Short break and descend to the last water point (Karanga River), where we climb the last steep section of the day. We will have our hot lunch at Karanga Camp. Day 6: Leave Karanga to Barafu Camp The next camp is not far, and the trail is less steep today. We will arrive at Barafu camp earlier for a hot lunch so that you spend the rest hours of the day relaxing. Unlike other days, expect an earlier dinner. Get yourself enough resting time to energize for a summit night. Accommodation: Barafu Camp Vegetation Zone: Alpine Desert Elevation: 4673 amsl Hiking time: 4 hours Hiking distance: 4 km
Day 7: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp Today is a great day! a day that you have been waiting for so long. You will wake up around 11 pm to prepare for the summit. After a light breakfast, we start our summit adventure around midnight. Your head guide will lead the way. He will set a good pace that will make you comfortable. Make sure you listen and follow the advice of your professional guides to reach Uhuru Peak safely and comfortably. We will get a short tea break at Stella Point at 5756 m. After one more hiking hour, we will reach Uhuru Peak at 5895m. Spend your time at Uhuru Peak enjoying a view and taking photos before descending to the base camp for breakfast and lunch. After lunch, leave Barafu to Mweka Camp, where we spend our last night on Kilimanjaro. Hiking time and distance from Barafu Camp to Stella Point: 6 hrs 4 km Hiking time and distance from Stella Point to Uhuru Peak: 1 hrs 1 km Descending time and distance from Uhuru to Barafu Camp: 3 hrs 5km Descending time and distance from Barafu Camp to Mweka Camp: 4 hours and 7.5km Accommodation: Mweka Camp Vegetation Zone: Moorland Elevation: 3100 amsl
Day 8: Mweka Camp to Arusha After our last breakfast on the mountain, we leave Mweka Camp, descending about 3 hours to Mweka Gate. On arrival at the gate, we check out, collect certificates and drive back to your hotel in Arusha for a shower and celebrations. Descending time: 3 hours, 10km Driving time to Arusha: 2 hours Accommodation: Green Mountain Hotel
Day 9: Departure Before airport time, we can arrange a day tour to Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro Crater, Ilkiding'a Cultural Tour, or Napuru Waterfalls.
