Please note that, the Marangu Route uses the same trail for both ascending and descending.
5 Days Marangu Route - Itinerary
Day 1: Airport Pick Up and Hotel Drop off

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, one of our professional drivers will meet you and then transfer to your hotel in Arusha. Your mountain guide will visit you at the hotel for the briefing regarding your trekking and gear checking.

Day 2: Depart Arusha to Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut
Meet your crew at the hotel and then drive to Marangu gate. Marangu is the headquarters of Kilimanjaro National Park. On arrival at the park gate, your guide will help with all necessary registration formalities before taking your lunch. Soon after permit clearance, start your Kilimanjaro expedition by walking through a rainforest where you can see different bird species and Black and white Colobus Monkeys. After 3 hours of hiking, we will arrive at Mandara Camp to spend our first night on the mountain. We will provide hot water for washing up before heading to the mess for your first dinner on Kilimanjaro. If time and the weather permits, you can take a short walk to Mahundi Crater. Welcome to Kilimanjaro, and welcome to Precious Safaris!

Day 3: Leave Mandara Hut for Horombo Hut
After the morning call, you will get water for washing. Organize your bags before going to the mess for your first breakfast on Kilimanjaro. After breakfast, start your hiking through the open moorland. If the weather is clear today, you can see the first view of the Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. Among the attractions to see on your way include Lobelia Deckenii and Senecio Kilimanjari. After a short break at the camp, we can take a short walk to Zebra Rocks before dinner.

Day 4: Horombo to Kibo
After your heavy breakfast, check out Horombo to the base camp. Today we hike through the moorland and the alpine desert. After a while, we will get to the saddle area between the peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo. We get our picnic lunch there before heading to Kibo Hut for dinner. Unlike other days, expect an earlier dinner today to get enough time to sleep due to a long night's walk to the summit.

Day 5: Depart Kibo to Uhuru Peak to Horombo Hut
Today is a great day, a day that you have been waiting for so long. You will wake up around 11 pm to prepare for the summit. After a light breakfast, we start our summit adventure around midnight. Your head guide will lead the way. He will set a good pace that will make you comfortable.
Make sure you listen and follow the advice of your professional guides to reach Uhuru Peak safely and comfortably. We will get a short tea break at Gilman’s Point at 5,681m.
After two more hiking hours, we will reach Uhuru Peak at 5895m. Spend your time at Uhuru Peak enjoying a view and taking photos before descending to the base camp for breakfast and lunch. After lunch, we descend to the lower altitude (Horombo Hut) for dinner and overnight.
Hiking time and distance from Kibo Hut to Gilman’s Point: 6 hrs 4 km
Hiking time and distance from Gilman’s Point to Uhuru Peak: 2 hours 2 km
Descending time and distance from Uhuru to Horombo Hut: 5 hrs 16 km

Day 6: Horombo Hut to Arusha Town
Today you wake in the morning for the last breakfast on the mountain. Enjoy dancing and Kilimanjaro songs with your mountain crew before we depart. It will take us 5 to 6 hours to arrive at Marangu gate. On arrival at the gate, we will check out, collect your certificates and have lunch before we drive back to Arusha Town.

Day 7: Departure
Before airport time, we can arrange a day tour to Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro Crater, Ilkiding'a Cultural Tour, or Napuru Waterfalls.
We will arrange your Airport transfer according to your flight time.
